Hey friends…I would love to solve a problem in leadership using this morning publication. Schedule some time on it.

Leadership is the discipline of deliberately exerting special influence within a group to move it towards goals of beneficial, permanence that fulfill the groups real needs (John Hagee)

Leadership is the ability to lead, control and guide a group of persons and other resources to achieve a targeted result at a specific time and cost.

A leader is one who guides and develops the activities of others and seeks to provide continual training and direction.

A leader is one who bears the vision, future and accomplishment of the vision in a group.

A leader is one with the gratified intellectual abilities to control and guide a particular ground.

A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.

A leader is a person who leads by example. He/she must master the art of decision-making. A leader is a person who has grown in maturity in leadership by being responsible and decisive. Contributing to this statement, Albert Fine said, “What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us. What we have for others and the world remains and is immortal”

Thus, a leader must be spiritually led to lead others.

SPIRIT LED LEADERSHIP

This has to do with the leadership with the direction of the Holy Spirit. This kind of leadership is Spirit (Holy  Spirit) oriented.

What are the characteristics of spirit oriented leadership?

To be a spirit-oriented leader, you must have a dependable encounter with God. Every great leader must have an encounter with God. Purpose (Vision) must go with divine direction to produce results. Moses had an encounter with God at the burning bush (Exodus 3:1-4). God directed him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt (The land of slavery). Every man who encounters God receives a commission for his mission and purpose as a leader.

You must possess godly character. For you to be led by the Spirit, you must have an unquestionable character. And this is only possible by the force of the Word and the Holy Spirit. Character is , “Me that God knows” Your certificate can make you a leader but character and responsibility are the two major factors that can sustain you (Heb. 3:1-2).

A leader shows a Godly character for his subject to imitate.

YOU SHOULD HAVE THE NATURE OF A SERVANT

Every leader must first be a servant before he is given the mantle of leadership. When you fail to serve, you make mistakes. Leadership is all about understanding the people you lead, being accommodative, and accomplishing a set transformative and people-oriented goal (Objective).

YOU MUST BE FAITHFUL

Any leader who cannot be trusted cannot be considered to lead others. Most leaders during or before the election or being chosen, claim to be faithful; but, when the mantle of leadership is given to them, they show their ‘real colour’ (Heb. 3:1-2; … Corinth. 4:1-2)

YOU MUST MAKE SACRIFICES

A leader must sacrifices what he/she has to others in order to have a successful leadership life. He/she must not depend on group’s treasury for expenditure.He/she should be financially literate, creative (Innovative) and productive.

HOW TO CHOOSE SPIRIT LED LEADERS

They must be selected through prayers.

A carnal person must not be chosen as a spirit led leader.

Politics should not be brought in, in choosing a leader.

His/her character must be properly examined and screened.

He/she must be found faithful.

A leader must make an indelible impression which will make generations yet unborn to remember him/her and celebrate God for sending him/her.

QUALITIES OF A GOOD LEADER

Honesty: A good leader must be truthful and just.

Integrity: He/she must be morally excellent and honest.

Self-discipline: He/she must be self-disciplined. He/she must have respect for the people and the land. He/she must bring himself/herself under subjection.

Transparency: Every good leader should be transparent. He/she must allow the truth to be seen by all the people he/she is leading.

Patriotism: A good leader must love his/her position and uphold good manner.

Humility: A good leader must be humble. He/she must avoid pride.

Sacrifices: A good leader must give out to get more in the future. He/she must be sacrificial in nature, ready to give out at all times.

Seeks advice before any action: A good leader should have good advisers because who you follow determines who and what follows you.

Love: A good leader must show affection to the people he/she is leading.

LEAVING THE LEGACY

Many world leaders left one or two things they are known for. Abraham Lincoln left many good legacies (Qualities). Today, many of us are learning persistence from his stories and victories. Thus, as an individual you can make decision to leave tangible legacy(s) for the ones around. A successful leader is one who makes impact, impression which they will be remembered for. Let all the public figures in Nigeria know that they are the mirror which the young Nigerians view; if eventually they misbehave, the upcoming Nigerian child will also tend to misbehave. Who will be blamed?

Is it not the legacy left for them that they imitate and  follow? Leave a nice legacy.

LEADING THE LEGACY

“Going far beyond the call of duty, doing more than others expect”; this is what leadership is all about. It comes from striving, maintaining the highest standards, looking after the smallest detail, and going extra miles. The leader should set examples in everything he does. Little wonder why Micheal Korda said, “Successs has always been easy to measure. It is the distance between one’s origin and one’s final achievement”

Everybody is a potential leader. You are either leading others aright or leading them into frustration. Jesus said, we should occupy till He comes. Anybody who occupies a place is the leader of that terroity. Your ability to distinguish yourself from others makes you a successful/great leader. Any leader who makes no impact is not worth leading. Be a pace-setter. Be a trail-blazer. Be a true leader. Live a life of legacy. And you will be remembered by generations yet unborn. It may not be easy but Prov. 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths”.

But, leadership without feedback is an error of the highest order. Thus, your leadership accomplishments should be measured against the set-objective (Standard anticipated).

A SIMPLE FORMULA FOR EVALUATING YOUR LEADERSHIP ACHIEVEMENT

You are a success, if you have:

Made impact that people appreciated you for.

Any physical achievement you have made.

The ability to co-ordinate and lead others to success.

The ability to understand everybody you lead

The ability to lead them to an expected level and to bring innovations into the particular group you lead.

Possess good qualities you are admired for and practically put them into practice,

THEN, YOU ARE A SUCCESSFUL LEADER.

Leaders show the way, others follow. Use your position to affect lives positively. They will be ever grateful. Start it NOW.
