The Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Brigitte Dzogbenuku, has cautioned presidential aspirants in the just ended general elections against calling candidates to congratulate them on winning.
Explaining her stance, the flag bearer of the PPP stated that, her outfit shall wait on the Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Jean Mensa to declare the final results for the presidential elections before congratulating any candidate.
“We would like to place on record that the PPP shall be the first to congratulate the EC’s declared winner of the presidential race,” she said in a statement on Wednesday, December 9. In this regard, premature congratulations are out of order, particularly at this time when the election is too close to call.”
The comments of Madam Dzogbenuku comes at a time when some presidential aspirants and their followers have started announcing themselves as victorious ahead of declarations from the Electoral Commissioner.
Barely 48 hours after the elections, the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) is yet to declare the final results.
