Ghana Premier League side, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, have sacked head coach, Maxwell Konadu, after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Accra Great Olympics—their first league defeat of the season.
Michael Yeboah scored the only goal of the afternoon yesterday in the Ghana Premier League week three outstanding game at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The former Black Stars assistant coach started the 2020/21 football season poorly, winning only one of the five games he has taken charge of this season in all competitions.
The Porcupine Warriors, in a statement on Friday morning, announced it has parted ways with Konadu, with immediate effect. Assistant coach, Johnson Smith, takes over as interim coach.
“Management of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club wishes to inform the general public that it has decided to part ways with Coach Maxwell Konadu as its Head Coach with immediate effect,” it read.
“In the interim, Coach Johnson Smith has been appointed to lead the team in its technical direction.”
Maxwell Konadu was appointed head coach of Asante Kotoko at the beginning of the truncated 2019/20 season to replace Kjetil Zachariassen.
It was his second stint with the club after first taking charge between 2011 and 2012.
Kotoko are 11th position on the league log after four games, winning only one against Legon Cities.
